About

I showed up in 1941 in Rochester, NY and stayed a long time, graduating as a data processing major from Monroe Community College and a social science major from the University of Rochester.

Tiring at last of lake-effect snow from September to May most years, I turned west and found the beaches of San Diego. After a career of writing computer programs and teaching computer applications design for Xerox Corporation and other major companies, I fully embraced a love of poetry and earned an MFA degree from Pacific University.

Influential mentors along the way included Steve Kowit, Eloise Klein Healy, John Brandi, Natasha Trethewey, and Joseph Millar. For over 10 years I have been leading workshops for adult emerging poets. We meet in Solana Beach where the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of San Dieguito generously provides space.

My far-flung family includes five grown children and 12 grandchildren. These days, my wife Steph and I divide our time between San Diego and the mountain town of Idyllwild where we are both involved with the Idyllwild Arts Foundation. This great organization sponsors a residential high school of the arts and a summer arts program for all ages.

I played oboe in community orchestras for many years and continue to pursue my interest in photography. And I try not to waste water. Drought, heat, and wildfires are big-time these days here in California. We the people have wrongs to right.
